The Boycott List
We’re not just green and environmental here at EverythingsGoneGreen, we support ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) too. And for that reason we’ve decided to boycott a few companies, brands and products for reasons of our own.
We have absolutely no issue with foreign companies per se but when they asset strip iconic British brands, avoid tax and move production abroad then we deeply question the ethics, loyalties and morals of these companies.
They seem only to care about themselves and their shareholders and show the utmost contempt for tradition, history and loyalty. They are so out of touch with humanity and only in touch with profit.
And for those good reasons we do not wish to put our hard-earned cash in their pockets. Feel free to join us.
- Bendicks – The Bendicks brand was brought by Storck, a German company, in 1988. They continue to employ staff in Winchester until July 2011 when production is fully moved to East Germany to “protect the brand”.
- Cadbury- Cadbury were a very British company with a great heritage and a strong brand until Kraft, the “plastic cheese manufacturer” brought them out in 2010. Not only are Kraft dodging tax in Britain but has refused to safeguard British jobs. What’s the alternative to Cadbury? Try Divine Chocolate – 45% owned by the cocoa farmers themselves in Ghana. What can be more ethical than that?
- HP Sauce – If you didn’t know, the HP in HP sauce stands for Houses of Parliament. How much more British can you get then that? It’s just a shame that in 2005 Heinz brought out HP foods, moved production to Holland, saw 125 British jobs lost and the old factory demolished.
- NestlĂ© – Their aggressive takeovers have seen them buy out and strip numerous brands but where do we begin with all the ill done by the giant multinational? Well how about a primer reading the NestlĂ© controversy & criticism entry at wikipedia.
- Twinings – A long-standing brand of British tea, did you know that they avoided UK tax, flaunted ethics and environmental reporting and are moving production from the British isles to China and Poland?! No? It’s all here.
